Song of the Mockingbird by Janet Autherine
The path is clearer on the highway of life but
you arrive at your destination too quickly.
Life is too short; there is no need to speed through it.
Consider exploring the blue mountains, the
cane fields, the back roads that lead to the river.
Savor every good moment, linger in peaceful places,
greet joy like it is your best friend.
Let your laughter rise to calm any clouds,
pause to listen to the mockingbird, dance to its song
and feel the trees sway to your rhythm, then
Sit
Sit
Sit
until the dawn breaks,
and the road beckons again.
Song of the Mockingbird was inspired by Janet’s nature-driven childhood in the small town of Dalvey, St. Thomas, Jamaica.
