Black Girls Don’t Cry is a Lie
Vulnerability inspires fear
so they tell you that the world
doesn’t want to see a bleeding heart
There is no empathy for black damsels
in distress so hold it all in, tears cause a mess
to the narrative of the strong black woman
Sisters, your emotions is your currency
Never fear the ugly cry
Are you needy? Hell, yes!
Wear your heart in your hands and
your emotions on your sleeves
Black girls don’t cry has been the biggest lie
Poem is from the book, the Heart and Soul of Black Women by Janet Autherine.
